In a season of 24 races across 12 rounds, there was bound to be a range of big battles in 2024, and boy, did this season deliver.
There were some door-to-door classics, some hour-long enduro tit-for-tats, midfield battles, and intra-team squabbles. More often than not, it was heart-stopping Supercars action at its best.
There were some repeat offenders, with Broc Feeney featuring in five of our 10 battles, and Chaz Mostert in four. By law of averages, that should have pitted them in at least one battle together, and it sure did.
Champion Will Brown is also mentioned three times, ending up on top twice, and narrowly missing out in the other.
Then, there's Thomas Randle, who notably battled with Brown in Perth, Townsville and Tasmania, with the latter leading to arguably the defining moment of the championship fight.
A big battle between co-drivers has also made our list, and it came with over 130 laps left in the race!
So, which was the best battle of the season? Vote in our poll below!
10) Kostecki vs Feeney, Bathurst
The battle for the Great Race was between two young guns, with Brodie Kostecki holding off Broc Feeney in the final stint. While they didn't go door-to-door, it was a brilliant display of two drivers going lap-for-lap, Kostecki eventually holding on after a blockbuster run home.
9) Hazelwood vs Whincup, Sandown
After the first driver changes at the Sandown 500, Jamie Whincup held third ahead of a racy Todd Hazelwood. With a point to prove, Hazelwood went underneath Whincup on a number of occasions, and after finally making the pass, the battle nearly ended in disaster as Hazelwood's tyre went flat.
8) Payne vs Percat and Wood, Sydney
In what Mark Skaife dubbed the move of the season, Matt Payne pulled out from behind the battling Nick Percat and Ryan Wood to pick off a two-for-one ripper into Sydney's high-speed Turn 1. The move triggered chaos around the lap, but Payne's bravery put him in the clear.
7) Mostert vs Feeney, Adelaide
The final race of the year was an instant classic, with a classic Ford vs General Motors bringing 2024 to a close. While it ended in controversy, Chaz Mostert and Broc Feeney put on a show for 61 laps, before colliding on lap 62 to rob Mostert of victory.
6) Percat vs Courtney, Perth
One of the more underrated battles, yet one with great potential to end badly, was one between two veterans in Perth. Nick Percat and James Courtney went head-to-head, and the duo tripped over each other over the rise in one of the action moments of the season.
5) Randle vs Brown and Feeney, Tasmania
Arguably the pivotal moment of the championship fight, Thomas Randle wiped Broc Feeney out at the hairpin in Tasmania. It came after Randle fought Will Brown, with the former escorted onto the grass. It opened the door for Feeney, who was blocked by Brown before Randle ran into him.
4) Percat vs Brown and Feeney, Melbourne
With the bit between his teeth, Nick Percat tried to keep the charging Bulls behind in a thrilling finale to the Grand Prix event. A bold Feeney move opened the door for Brown, with Percat racing away to a surprise victory.
3) Mostert vs Randle and Davison, Adelaide
After being sent into the barriers by Broc Feeney, Chaz Mostert nursed his damaged car home in a desperate bid to claim a podium. Thomas Randle, Will Davison and Nick Percat applied plenty of pressure, but Mostert denied them to cling onto second place.
2) Brown vs Feeney, Taupō
For laps on end, Will Brown tried to get past Broc Feeney, the teammates determined to keep it clean. Time and again, Brown ranged alongside at the hairpin, but Feeney hung on. It took a narrow entry around the middle of the circuit for Brown to make his move, putting a full stop on what would prove the fight for the championship by year's end.
1) Waters vs Mostert, Townsville
For years, Cam Waters and Chaz Mostert have treated us to many a show on track. To date, there has been no greater battle between the duo than Townsville, where the former teammates went punch-for-punch in a classic fight for the victory, which fell the way of Waters.
