Adelaide 500 returned as Supercars season finale in 2022
$61.6 million economic benefit 18.8 percent higher than 2022
The South Australian Government has announced the 2023 VAILO Adelaide 500 has delivered a record benefit to the state economy, building on the event's return in 2022.
The Adelaide 500, which returned as the Supercars season finale in 2022, reached new heights in its second year back in 2023.
The $61.6 million economic benefit was 18.8 percent higher than the 2022 event, which injected a record $51.85 million into the economy.
The 2023 event, which attracted an estimated 260,700 fans, also recorded a benefit 59 percent higher than the 2020 event ($38.61 million). Of the 260,700 fans, almost 20 percent of event attendees were from interstate and overseas.
The total number of visitor nights in 2023 was 121,631, which was a 25.8 percent increase on the 96,671 recorded at the 2022 event. There were also 527 full time equivalent jobs created, which was an increase of 102 on the 2022 event.
The 2023 event, which saw the first championship showdown since 2018, was also highlighted by a headline performance by Robbie Williams, the Kindig Custom Car Show, and a freestyle BMX event.
For the second year in a row, the event was awarded the Supercars Fan Choice Award for the Best Event of 2023.
SA Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “In the two years since we’ve brought it back, the VAILO Adelaide 500 has gone from strength to strength.
“There’s no question the presence of Robbie Williams helped deliver a truly special event in 2023, that saw increasing numbers of visitors coming into our state and spending record amounts of money in our economy.
“The investments we made in improving the crowd experience with additional shade delivered significant dividends.
“We look forward to yet another outstanding event in 2024.”
This year's VAILO Adelaide 500, set for November 14-17, will be headlined by star attractions including the Fox Australian Supercross, an all-new drop-in speedway, and concerts featuring Crowded House and Cold Chisel.
