Supercars will race into twilight in both Perth races
Perth SuperSprint the 45th championship round at Wanneroo track
Perth-born Brodie Kostecki set for champion's homecoming
Supercars will race into sunset at the upcoming Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint, with the track schedule released for an historic event at the Wanneroo circuit.
The May 17-19 round will be the 45th time the Australian Touring Car Championship/Repco Supercars Championship has visited the Western Australian permanent circuit.
The circuit, currently known as CARCO.com.au Raceway, held its first round in 1973, and since 1978 has hosted a round of the championship every year bar 2010, 2020 and 2021.
The WA venue holds the mantle as the circuit to have hosted the most races in Supercars/ATCC history, and in 2024, will rack up races 96 and 97.
Saturday's Race 9 and Sunday's Race 10 will both commence at 3:45pm, and will run to 55 laps. With sunset in Perth at approximately 5:25pm, Supercars will not only race into sunset, but into prime time viewing in eastern states.
Race fans attending the event will be treated to additional Supercars sessions. Supercars will be on-track all three days, with morning practice sessions added on Saturday and Sunday ahead of Races 9 and 10 of the 2024 season which will race into sunset.
The Perth round will also feature the new-for-2024 SuperSprint format, which sees drivers roll out for 60 minutes of practice on Friday, before Saturday and Sunday action kicks off with a 20-minute practice session.
In another win for Perth fans, local hero Brodie Kostecki is set to race on home soil as reigning champion, with the Erebus Motorsport driver scoring a hat-trick of podiums at last year's event.
Kostecki is the first Perth-born Supercars champion since 2007 champ Garth Tander, and will make his Supercars racing return next weekend in New Zealand after missing the first two rounds of 2024.
Fellow Perth native and Ford rookie Aaron Love and Perth-based Andre Heimgartner will add to the local flavour as the 24-car Supercars field takes to one of the shortest circuits on the Supercars calendar, and one notorious for producing intense door-to-door racing.
There will be support category action aplenty in Perth, highlighted by the second round of the 2024 Dunlop Series season, with Mount Gambier teenager Kai Allen leading the championship after winning both races at the Thrifty Bathurst 500 in February.
Touring Car Masters, Aussie Racing Cars, and Radicals Cup will also compete across all three days of action at Wanneroo.
Fans will also be entertained by drifting and aerobatic stunt displays, as well as demonstration runs from the NAPA-branded NASCAR Cup Series car, which has been seen at several Supercars events in recent years.
Tickets for the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint can be purchased via Supercars.com and Ticketek.
Live coverage of Supercars’ annual visit to Perth can be found on Foxtel with live streaming available on Kayo.
The championship is next on track next weekend at the inaugural ITM Taupō Super400 in New Zealand. Triple Eight’s Will Brown leads the championship heading across the ditch, holding a 17-point lead over teammate Broc Feeney, six races into the 2024 season.
