Four races, 174 points: How Mostert has turned 2024 on its head

In two rounds, Chaz Mostert has powered straight back into the championship fight
  • Chaz Mostert has taken 174 points off Will Brown in four races

  • Mostert dominated Sydney to claim perfect 300-point haul

  • WAU Ford star now second in the championship

After Darwin, Chaz Mostert was 279 points behind Will Brown. It seemed, at that stage, that maybe it wouldn't be the Walkinshaw Andretti United star's year, once again.

Or so we thought.

In two rounds, Mostert has reeled off four straight podiums and scored 567 of a possible 600 points, headlined by a supreme Sydney sweep.

In that span, Brown has scored 393 points and Broc Feeney 348 points, while Cam Waters' faint title hopes still have a pulse thanks to 522 points in two rounds.

It has been a staggering turnaround for Mostert, who is now second in the championship, just 105 points behind Brown. Brown has led the standings since the Grand Prix in March, with Feeney holding down second position.

The turning point of the year could yet prove to be Brown's Townsville crash, which brought his three closest rivals back into play. On the other side of the coin, if not for a loose wheel in New Zealand and qualifying dramas in Darwin, Mostert could be leading the championship.

Regardless, the pressure will be straight back on WAU, with Team Principal Carl Faux flagging Tasmania as a key litmus test, given the team's previous struggles on the Super Soft tyre.

"What a fantastic weekend. To come out of it with two victories, and the way the team did it, was just superb," Faux said.

"We’re over the moon. Chaz drove an amazing race on Saturday and then backed it up on Sunday. It was real dominance.

"Now we need to be good again when we go onto the super-soft tyre in Tasmania. We’re chipping away at it. That will be the telltale for us on whether we can challenge for the championship."

The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint on August 16-18. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

Live coverage can be found on Foxtel, with live streaming available on Kayo. Highlights will be shown on the Seven Network and 7plus. International viewers can follow all the action on Superview.
