Anton De Pasquale has continued the Shell V-Power Racing Team's resurgence, beating Chaz Mostert and Will Brown to Race 8 provisional pole at the ITM Taupō Super400 as Saturday winner Andre Heimgartner missed the Shootout.

De Pasquale (#11 Shell V-Power Ford) fired to the top at the death to beat Mostert (#25 Mobil 1 Optus Ford) to provisional pole by just 0.0272s, with championship leader Brown (#87 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet) just 0.0292s.

Saturday provisional pole man Matt Payne (#19 Penrite Ford) was fourth, with the top four covered by a scant margin of just 0.0530s after 15 minutes of Boost Mobile Qualifying.

Heimgartner, who dominated Saturday's race, has had his hopes of a fairytale Jason Richards Memorial Trophy hit with failure to reach the Shootout, with the #8 R&J Batteries Chevrolet driver set to start the finale from 11th.

The Kiwi wasn't the only Saturday front-runner to miss out, with Race 7 runner-up Will Davison only 18th in his #17 Shell V-Power Ford, some 0.9s behind his teammate. Mustang rival Cam Waters, who claimed pole on Saturday, qualified 12th in his #6 Monster Energy Ford.

Returning champion Brodie Kostecki (#1 TFH Hire Chevrolet) and teammate Jack Le Brocq (#9 TFH Hire Chevrolet) made it an Erebus Motorsport eight-nine result, with Thomas Randle (#55 Castrol Ford) denying Heimgartner the final Shootout berth.
