Bathurst 1000 winner set for surprise Super2 cameo
Jonathon Webb to substitute for Cooper Murray
Webb to race #88 Eggleston Commodore this weekend
Jonathon Webb is set to make a surprise return to Bathurst in the Dunlop Series, substituting for Cooper Murray.
Webb, who won the 2016 Bathurst 1000 with Will Davison, will steer the #88 Eggleston Motorsport Holden Commodore vacated by Murray.
Murray, who claimed pole in Bathurst at the Dunlop Series opener in February, will make his Great Race debut alongside Craig Lowndes.
Lowndes and Murray will again share a Triple Eight Race Engineering Chevrolet Camaro, having raced from 18th to fifth at Sandown.
With Cameron Crick also focusing on his Great Race debut, Eggleston Motorsport will campaign three Super2 entries in the 20-car field, with Webb racing alongside points leader Kai Allen and Jordyn Sinni.
Allen will make his second Bathurst start alongside Davison at Dick Johnson Racing, having debuted in a wildcard Ford last year.
Webb is no stranger to the Dunlop Series, notably winning the 2009 title before racing full-time from 2010.
He made his most recent Bathurst 1000 start last year alongside Tim Slade at PremiAir Nulon Racing.
Webb is another new name set for the weekend, with Trans Am racer Jackson Rice to stand in for Matt Chahda in the privateer team’s Commodore.
First Dunlop Series practice at the Repco Bathurst 1000 will get underway on Thursday at 10:05am AEDT.
