The ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600 has drawn an event crowd of 175,238.
The State’s largest annual sporting event has delivered a resounding result for the Gold Coast across the three days of V8 Supercars and entertainment. Additionally, V8 Superfest drew an estimated 77,000 people who attended various events in the month of October.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Jann Stuckey said the event had been an outstanding weekend and month-long festival for the Gold Coast.
“I commend the efforts of V8 Supercars for putting together a magnificent event,” Minister Stuckey said after attending the event today.
“This year’s race combined with V8 Superfest made a fantastic contribution to the Gold Coast community. There have been thrills, spills and excitement for everybody.”
V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton was delighted with the outcome.
“It’s been yet another outstanding success, we are delighted and thank the Gold Coast community for the way it has embraced the weekend,” Warburton said.
“The atmosphere was amazing, the concerts electric and V8 Superfest drew an estimated 77,000 people in the weeks leading in. These are terrific positives to build on.”
Mr Warburton said some limitations with construction of the light rail had been mitigated in a strong working partnership with GoldLinQ, Council and Police.
“In working very closely with light rail we were unable to build as many grandstands as we would have liked and clearly the demand was at an all-time high,” said Warburton.
All available grand stand seats were sold out four days before the event began.
“With the light rail coming on board next year it gives us an amazing opportunity to significantly increase the grand stand build right around the circuit,” he said.
“The light rail will be an amazing asset to the Gold Coast and this event in particular next year. People will have the best and easiest access they have ever had.
“We are very excited about the years ahead.”
