The Dunlop Super2 Series field came out swinging in 2022.

Seventeen young guns were keen to prove themselves in the development category.

With six rounds in the rear-view mirror, there is plenty of action to sift through.

From surprise winners and teammate tangles to going airborne off the line, Supercars.com takes a look at the biggest battles of the Super2 season.

Robotham for the win

Jaylyn Robotham claimed his maiden Super2 victory in a dramatic season-opening race in Sydney.

The Victorian teenager emerged atop a thrilling battle following a mid-race Safety Car.

Robotham stole the front running after early leader Tyler Everingham dropped out of contention with a delaminating tyre.

Overhauling title contenders Zak Best and Matt Payne at the restart, Robotham skipped away into a clear lead, which he converted to victory by 3.3s.

Triple Eight teammates lock horns

The Sydney finale saw Declan Fraser and Triple Eight teammate Cameron Hill lead through Turn 1 as front-row starter Angelo Mouzouris bogged down.

Mouzouris sent Hill into a spin at Turn 2 and was forced into retirement with damage.

It wasn't the only incident on the opening lap; a start-line incident between James Masterton, Paul Boschert and Tony Auddino triggered the first Safety Car period.

War of words erupts after crash

The chaotic Dunlop Series Sydney finale featured three Safety Car periods, with Zak Best taking top honours.

An incident between Matt McLean, Ryal Harris and Nash Morris triggered the final Safety Car, which ended the race six laps short.

Harris took out an unsuspecting Morris at Turn 5 after the former was forced wide onto the grass by McLean.

Harris and Morris were embroiled in a heated trackside face-off as the chequered flag waved at the other end of the circuit.

Best’s Perth disaster

The Perth opener spelled disaster for series leader Zak Best.

An attempt to pass Super3 runner Steven Page ended in tragedy for Best.

Best drew alongside Page through Turn 5; front-left to left-rear contact sent Best gently into the outside wall.

The stranded Falcon triggered the Safety Car, bringing Best’s race to an early end.

Airborne off the start

It was a battle of the Nissan’s off the front row for the Perth finale, but it was a mid-pack scuffle that delivered high drama.

Nash Morris' car was sent skywards after he was sandwiched by Ryal Harris and Brad Vaughan off the start line.

Getting a good jump off the line, Morris attempted to pass between Harris and Vaughan, while they moved to defend their position.

The trio made contact, launching Morris’ Falcon into the air.

Series contenders clash off the line

Declan Fraser has claimed the Dunlop Series points lead with victory in a chaotic Townsville race.

The race began in high drama, with Saturday winner Tyler Everingham clashing with Matt Payne.

A slow-starting Zak Best was sandwiched by Everingham and Payne.

Best and Everingham made contact, with the latter spearing into the path of Payne.

Slippery Sandown causes choas

Matt Payne claimed victory in a turbulent Dunlop Series finale at Sandown, which featured a last-lap pile-up.

Disaster struck at a rain-soaked Sandown as Super3 driver Jason Gomersall crashed at Turn 3 ahead of the leaders.

Race leader Dean Fiore skated off, throwing mud onto the circuit and retained the lead, but all chaos ensued behind him.

Sixth-placed Maxwell hit the stricken Gomersall, as did Angelo Mouzouris and Matt McLean.

Matt Chahda, who was third on the road, also spun on the mud, as did Jaylyn Robotham.

Best closes the gap

Zak Best closed the Super2 points gap to Declan Fraser with victory in Race 1 in Bathurst.

Best led from start to finish in the shortened race, which was punctuated by wet weather.

The race was neutralised on lap 6, following Angelo Mouzouris’ crash with the tyre barriers at Griffin’s Bend, and did not resume.

Best’s second win of 2022, slashed Fraser's lead to 75 points with one round to go.

Seton goes airborne in Adelaide

The Adelaide opener was shortened to 14 laps after two Safety Car periods.

The race was first neutralised after a crash for Aaron Seton on lap 6.

The race ran green for the opening five laps before Seton was sent airborne at Turn 6.

Seton defended his position and was tipped into a spin by Cameron Crick into the Turn 6 tyre barriers.

The impact lifted the #35 Matt Stone Commodore into the air, with Seton coming to rest.

Hill’s hopes dashed

The Adelaide finale spelled disaster for series contender Cameron Hill.

Hill collided with the concrete barrier at the infamous Turn 8, following a safety car restart.

The crash saw Hill, who has been in contention for the Super2 title, cede the title fight to Declan Fraser.

Victory in the VALO Adelaide 500 finale handed Fraser the 2022 Dunlop Super2 Series title.

The 2023 Supercars, Super2 and Super3 seasons will commence in Newcastle next March.
