Broc Feeney apologises to Chaz Mostert over dramatic clash
Feeney hit Mostert out of race lead in closing laps of Adelaide finale
Mostert second behind Will Brown, Feeney reclassified seventh
Broc Feeney sought out Chaz Mostert to apologise over their dramatic clash in the VAILO Adelaide 500, which ultimately cost both drivers victory.
Carrying a 15-second penalty over an unsafe release, Feeney punted Mostert into the Turn 6 barriers in the closing laps. Feeney pressed on and copped another penalty, while Mostert crawled to second.
Champion Will Brown claimed victory despite being turned around in the opening laps, with Mostert second and Feeney reclassified seventh.
After the race, Feeney apologised to Mostert and Walkinshaw Andretti United engineer Sam Scaffidi, with Feeney putting his hand up over the incident.
"I went and apologised to Chaz, obviously extremely sorry to him and his team that I took away from those guys," Feeney said.
"I can't give that back to them. But, yeah, obviously a lot of things went wrong in our race. But then, yeah, I suppose I was a bit too aggressive.
"I was trying to get to the lead and try and extend my 15-second gap, and I made a mistake and tagged him.
"So, I went out and apologised to him. to him and his engineer Scaff, Chaz was alright. But yeah, disappointed."
Mostert admitted after the race that he thought Feeney would have had the pace to open up a 15-second gap, and that he had lost his right-side mirror.
When asked if he felt he had the pace to put 15 seconds on Mostert, Feeney replied: "I don't know about 15 seconds up the road, but my engineer told me that they told Chaz pretty much to let me go.
"So as soon as I heard that I started showing the nose and I wasn't sure if he was going to let me go or not. That's what my engineer told me two corners before.
"So I sort of went mid-track to see what he would do, but he was obviously pretty keen to still race. Initially into the staircase I sort of got up the side. But when he started turning back in, I tried to back out and that's when I tagged him.
"But as I said, my complete mistake. I was gutted to see him not win that race even though Will ended up winning it.
"Not the way I obviously go about racing, but for me, I raced hard this weekend, I'm proud of the pace we had. We win and lose together as a team and we certainly learned that this weekend."
Feeney and Mostert finished second and third in the championship, which was clinched by Brown on Saturday.
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will commence at the Sydney 500 on February 21-23. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
