Erebus undertaking repairs after Brodie Kostecki chicane incident
Kostecki tried "best Cam Waters impersonation" with chicane crunch
Reigning champion confident ahead of final races for Erebus
Erebus Motorsport is undertaking repairs on Brodie Kostecki's car after the reigning champion bottomed out at the Senna Chicane in a dramatic start to proceedings at the VAILO Adelaide 500.
Kostecki ended up seventh in Practice 1 on Thursday, which was topped by Blanchard Racing Team veteran James Courtney.
Courtney led a jumbled order, with Kostecki missing the final seven minutes of the session after striking trouble at the first chicane.
Where several drivers damaged front splitters after contact with the Turn 1 tyre bundle, Kostecki damaged his newly-liveried Chevrolet Camaro after crunching the kerb.
Speaking after returning to pit lane, Kostecki poked fun at Ford rival Cam Waters' spectacular aerial efforts through the Gold Coast beach chicane three weeks ago.
"I've done myself a mischief there. I tried to do my best Cam Waters impersonation at Gold Coast," Kostecki quipped.
"Bit unfortunate, car feels pretty good, just going to focus on the race car a little bit. All in all, all good.
"Just a little bit of damage, so we'll put a rail on it, and go again tomorrow."
Kostecki arrives in Adelaide arguably in the hottest form of all, having dominated the Repco Bathurst 1000 and Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 finale in October.
The 27-year-old swept the poles in Adelaide last November en route to the title, and was pleased with his early pace despite the chicane setback.
Kostecki, whose car was quickly stripped following his incident, still expects the track to dramatically evolve further ahead of Friday evening's all-important Boost Mobile Qualifying.
Friday's session will lock in positions 11 through 24 for Saturday's race, with the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout to be held before the first 250km race of the weekend.
"It's pretty sketchy out there at the moment, it's pretty dirty offline," Kostecki said.
"Not really much you can read from today, except the car's not absolutely terrible to drive, to that's a good start.
"We'll just focus on what we've got to tomorrow, the track will change a lot going into qualifying tomorrow night. We'll stay on top of it, and we'll be there."
Supercars will return on Friday with Practice 2 at 1:35pm local time/2:05pm AEDT, followed by Boost Mobile Qualifying at 6:00pm/6:30pm AEDT.
