12 months ago, Brodie Kostecki lost victory in controversial circumstances on the Gold Coast. On Sunday, he made up for it in fine style.

The reigning champion led from start to finish in Race 22 at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, claiming his second win of the season and eighth of his career.

As he did in Bathurst two weeks ago, Kostecki had to beat two charging Bulls, with Will Brown and Broc Feeney just down the road in second and third.

The victory atoned for his miss last year, when David Reynolds straight-lined the first chicane on the last lap to beat Kostecki to victory.

When asked if Sunday’s win made up for the 2023 near-miss, Kostecki echoed Dick Johnson, who famously said, "The only thing you get from looking backwards is a sore neck.”

“It is what it is. I don't really look backwards, otherwise you’ll get a crook neck,” Kostecki told Supercars.com’s Schick Cool Down Lap podcast.

"I was just focusing on this weekend and trying to do the best job I could. We made the car a bit better from yesterday and it was great today.”

Kostecki, who missed the first two rounds of the season, jumped to 19th in the points, with Erebus Motorsport now just 12 points behind Dick Johnson Racing — Kostecki’s 2025 team.

For now, Kostecki is back winning races for Erebus, with the 26-year-old determined to close out his current chapter with more silverware.

“Yeah it's good, it makes my job easy when the car's fast,” Kostecki said.

“It's a great day today, obviously to get the pole and to lead the whole race which is quite cool. I’m looking forward to Adelaide, hopefully we have a good two races there and good way to finish off the season.”

The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will be decided at the season-ending VAILO Adelaide 500 on November 14-17. Tickets are on sale now.
