Will Brown rues pit speed limiter error
Brown led Broc Feeney from pole position in Race 1
Triple Eight recruit left limiter on at pit exit
Will Brown has revealed he made a pit limiter error in Race 1 at the Thrifty Bathurst 500, which fell the way of Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Broc Feeney.
Feeney led home Brown in a Triple Eight one-two on Saturday, with Feeney overhauling Brown through the first round of stops.
Brown led the field away from pole position, and was nearly a second ahead of Feeney when he stopped at the end of lap 11.
Feeney stopped on the following lap and emerged ahead of Brown, and that was how they finished when the race ended under bp pulse Safety Car conditions.
“Obviously in the pits we had a bit of a change of the lead but I stuffed up on pit exit,” Brown said after the race.
"I didn't get my pit button quick enough and lost a bit of time out of there unfortunately in that first stop. But, overall, it is a great way to start a season.
“A one-two, you can't hope for anything better and really good points. It's a pretty tough track this one, so to get second, I'm pretty happy it.”
Brown suggested the overcut may have had a greater influence on Feeney getting in front, but remonstrated the pit limiter mistake.
However, the Queenslander was delighted to start his time with Triple Eight on the podium, and was happy to bank 138 points — just 12 short of the 150 maximum — in his very first race with the team.
"I am a little bit disappointed in myself to be honest out of pit lane,” Brown continued.
"I think that might have just allowed me to jump him but the overcut was quite strong as well with him pitting a lap later.
"I'm not sure but, overall, I'm not too worried, it's very early in the season and it's really good points. But you always want to get that win that's for sure."
