Just days after his horror Perth crash, Cameron McLeod has scored laps in a Gen3 Supercar, courtesy of PremiAir Nulon Racing.
The 19-year-old was trackside with the team, including drivers James Golding and Tim Slade, and engineers Ludo Lacroix and Romy Mayer, during a test day at Queensland Raceway on Tuesday.
There, McLeod had an opportunity to get behind the wheel of Slade's #23 PremiAir Nulon Chevrolet Camaro, which was earlier driven by Will Brown.
The third-generation racer's laps came just nine days after he suffered a scary rollover in the Dunlop Series finale in Perth, following contact from Cooper Murray.
Murray was also on track on Tuesday, testing his Triple Eight Race Engineering wildcard Camaro with seven-time Bathurst winner Craig Lowndes.
"Cameron McLeod joined us at Queensland Raceway yesterday, and it was perfect timing that he had his race suit with him when he was offered a chance to experience a Gen3 Supercar," the team posted to social media.
The team had both cars on track, with full-time drivers Slade and Golding joined by co-driver recruit David Russell, who recently departed Erebus Motorsport.
The laps could put McLeod in the frame to race alongside Slade, with Russell locked in alongside Golding for the enduros.
Slade raced with 2016 Bathurst winner Jonathon Webb last year, with Webb joining PremiAir Nulon Racing at pre-season testing earlier this year.
McLeod, who will turn 20 in December, would make his main game debut should he secure the drive.
In the interim, PremiAir Nulon Racing is attempting a rebuild of McLeod's damaged Commodore, which sustained significant damage in the Perth crash.
The #92 Coca-Cola Commodore avoided damage in key areas, notably the roof and boot areas of the car, with Triple Eight to assess the chassis.
McLeod is set to resume his Dunlop Series campaign on July 5-7 in Townsville.
The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will continue at the betr Darwin Triple Crown on June 14-16. Tickets for the event are on sale now. International viewers can follow all the Supercars action on Superview.
