Caruso to steer second Monster Energy Mustang

Michael Caruso has sought out the help of his PIRTEK Enduro Cup teammate Cameron Waters ahead of his BP Supercars All Stars Eseries debut tomorrow night.

Caruso has been confirmed to compete in Round 9 action as a Tickford Racing wildcard, driving a #10 Monster Energy Mustang.

The former Garry Rogers Motorsport and Kelly Racing driver, who won Supercars races in 2009 and 2016, has been a keen follower of the Eseries to date.

“Really they have set the standard now to such a high level in terms of the product that they’ve put on that lots of people that I know that don’t really follow the sport closely have even been talking about it,” Caruso told Supercars.com.

“It’s fantastic to be a part of it.

“It’s obviously very exciting because as everybody knows I love Supercars and I obviously love competing so to get in there in the mix with everybody involved, it should be some good fun.”

With “zilch to none” prior online racing experience besides having a PlayStation as a kid, Caruso has turned to Waters for some pointers.

Waters has been one of the standouts in the virtual competition, sitting third in the Eseries standings entering the penultimate round.

“I’ve actually just turned up to his house now, we don’t live too far away from each other so he’s going to give me a few pointers which will be good, so hopefully they shine tomorrow night,” Caruso said.

Michigan International Speedway is the only track confirmed to date, with the results of a driver vote for the second Round 9 circuit to be revealed tomorrow.

“The oval race a couple of weeks ago [at Charlotte] was absolutely amazing, that was such a good show,” said Caruso.

The 37-year-old, who stars on podcast Below The Bonnet alongside Penrite Racing driver David Reynolds, also explained his thinking behind requesting #10.

“I briefly ran #10 when Nissan Australia sponsored my car for a test day, and then it obviously got changed to #23 when it became available, so it’s a number that has been around a long time for me,” he said.

The number of Virgin Australia Supercars Championship enduro events in which Caruso will co-drive with Waters this year is to be confirmed, with race formats for the revised 2020 calendar still to be announced.
