Chevrolet reveals new drag car in Bathurst

Chevrolet Racing has revealed its new 3500hp Camaro-based drag car in Bathurst.

The car was unveiled alongside the Gen3 Camaro Supercar.

The Chevrolet Racing brand will complement the Camaro joining Supercars.

It comes after Ford revealed its new seventh-generation Mustang Gen3 Supercar on Thursday.

The drag car is the next phase in the multi-pronged development of the new dedicated Chevrolet Racing brand.

The ‘Slammer’ drag car features a supercharged V8 that will see the car clock the quarter mile in under 5.7s at speeds over 410 km/h.

The car was revealed in the same black and gold livery as the Gen3 Supercar.

“This is the next exciting addition to the Chevrolet Racing programme,” said Chris Payne, General Manager Chevrolet Racing.

"This isn’t a concept or a digital rendering, it’s a real fire-breathing Camaro that will debut in professional drag racing competition at the highest level later this year.

“Chevrolet Racing is the new heart for the fans who have followed Holden in Australasian motorsport for more than 50 years.

"As the big brother to the Gen3 Supercar, this race car demonstrates the ongoing commitment of GM ANZ to motorsports at the highest levels.”

The new drag car will be campaigned by the Fabietti ACDelco Race team, which has raced GM products for more than 15 years.

The team campaigned a Monaro-bodied 3500hp Pro Slammer to win the Championship in 2017.

It also achieved second place in 2019 and, most recently, was runner-up at the 2021 WinterNationals.

“We anticipate the lightweight carbon fibre body will allow us to develop some significant aero advantages,” Maurice Fabietti said.

“[We] are confident we’ll see some sub-5.7 second quarter mile times.

“After 12 months in build, it goes without saying that we’re more than excited with the new car.

“Can’t wait to set it loose with driver Sam Fenech against the competition later this year."
