Holden’s Supercars farewell will come at a venue the Commodore has dominated.

The 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will conclude at the VALO Adelaide 500.

Adelaide has largely proven lion territory since the Supercars event’s inception in 1999.

Commodores have won 30 of the 46 Supercars championship races held in Adelaide.

Ford Mustangs, courtesy of Scott McLaughlin, have won three of the last four.

Before 2019, however, the Adelaide streets firmly belonged to the Commodore.

Holden drivers won 15 Adelaide races in a row between 2013 and 2018, and 20 out of 21 between 2010 and 2018.

Holden’s VF Commodore went unbeaten in Adelaide between 2013 and 2017.

Between 2004 and 2009, Falcons won 10 of 12 races, the only outliers being the VE Commodore’s debut wins in 2007.

Craig Lowndes took the very first V8 Supercar Adelaide victory in 1999 — however, it came with a catch.

The 1999 Adelaide event, held under the Sensational Adelaide 500 name, had it all.

Lowndes, at the peak of his powers, was the Saturday villain turned Sunday hero.

The Holden Racing Team star was involved in multiple incidents in the Saturday leg.

Lowndes was disqualified from the opening leg, lost 100 points and $40,000 in prize money.

The HRT ace was forced to start the second 250km from the rear, but fought through to win.

The 500 was originally promoted as one race, split into two legs.

Lowndes’ official winning race time stands at 25 hours, 35 minutes and 23 seconds.

Lowndes and Garth Tander competed at every event between 1999 and 2018.

The inaugural year was Lowndes' only 500 win, while Tander won in 2000 and 2010.

No driver has won more Adelaide races than Jamie Whincup’s 11, with six coming in Commodores.

Whincup won the Saturday leg in 2020, the most recent Adelaide 500 event.

A total of 14 different drivers have won at least one Adelaide race.

Of the 14, six have won multiple races in Commodores: Whincup (6), Lowndes (5), Shane van Gisbergen (5), Mark Skaife (4), Tander (3) and James Courtney (3).

Jason Bright, Fabian Coulthard, Todd Kelly, Rick Kelly and Nick Percat all won in Holdens.

Only two drivers — Whincup and Lowndes — won races in Ford and Holdens.

Champion-elect van Gisbergen has made a point of sending Holden out a winner.

"We also have the chance to celebrate Holden, that’s going to mean a lot to our team and GM," he said.

"We want to go out with a good result. Everyone wants to be the last Holden winner.

"The Ford guys probably want to spoil that, so I’ll be there prepared but also ready to party."
