Davison, van Gisbergen share Sunday poles

Shane van Gisbergen and Will Davison have shared the Sunday poles at Symmons Plains.

Van Gisbergen will launch from top spot for Race 4, with Davison to start at the front for the finale.

It will be a Red Bull Ampol Racing front row lockout for Race 4, with Broc Feeney impressing to P2.

Jack Le Brocq scored a career-best qualifying for Matt Stone Racing in the following session, and will start alongside Davison.

The session was declared early after van Gisbergen and Tim Slade clashed at Turn 6 with under two minutes remaining.

Van Gisbergen, the new points leader after Saturday, had set an earlier banker lap and ended up third.

Cars rolled out of pit lane for the first of two ARMOR ALL Qualifying sessions under sunny skies.

Anton De Pasquale was the only driver to set a sub 51-second time after the first flyers.

The field returned for a final time attack with four minutes remaining, and it was van Gisbergen who proved quickest.

Van Gisbergen improved to a 50.484s, with Feeney locking in a maiden front row on a 50.636s.

Former teammates Mark Winterbottom and David Reynolds will share the second row, with Slade and Davison fifth and sixth.

De Pasquale was eighth all told behind Scott Pye, with Nick Percat and Todd Hazelwood rounding out the top 10.

Chris Pither impressed to 11th ahead of Saturday pole man Waters.

Erstwhile points leader Chaz Mostert slumped to 16th, with Erebus teammates Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown 23rd and 24th.

Cars returned to the track for the Race 5 session after a 10-minute interval.

Davison led the way through the first runs with a 50.551s ahead of van Gisbergen, Hazelwood, De Pasquale and Reynolds.

In a bid to save tyres, both Davison and Hazelwood alighted from their cars with seven minutes remaining.

The track again burst into life with four minutes remaining, and the balance of the field tried to find space.

Van Gisbergen caught Slade into Turn 6, and the two cars interlocked through the corner.

Both drivers managed to return their cars to pit lane, with the #97 wearing a right-rear puncture.

The red flag was flown, and the session was later declared, freezing the times.

Le Brocq had managed to set his time prior to the stoppage, undercutting his previous-best qualifying result of fourth set at Tailem Bend in 2020.

For Davison, it was career pole No.20 and his first since Darwin last June. 

Cars will return to the track for the 44-lap Race 4 at 1:00pm AEDT.

The NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint will close with Race 5 at 3:55pm AEDT.
