Viewers will be offered a rare live opportunity during Craig Lowndes’ Sandown Supercars cameo.

Lowndes will steer Jack Smith’s #4 SCT Logistics Commodore in Friday’s Additional Driver session.

It marks the first time since 2004 that Lowndes will drive a non-Triple Eight car in a competitive session.

Lowndes’ BJR cameo will feature a live in-car cross from the cabin of the #4.

The three-time Supercars champion will share a Triple Eight wildcard with Declan Fraser in October.

The dedicated co-driver session will run for 30 minutes on Friday afternoon.

Lowndes will then step into the Gen3 Camaro for a 40-minute session.

The seven-time winner forms a key part of Supercars’ broadcast team.

Lowndes will take viewers behind the scenes of the BJR Commodore during the live in-car cross.

He is a 674-race veteran, and has won 11 races in 39 starts at Sandown.

David Tunnicliffe, Supercars’ Head of Broadcast, explained the benefits of the live cross.

"It’s a cool opportunity for Craig, and a great one for viewers as well," Tunnicliffe told Supercars.com.

"We don’t have sessions like this often, and it’s also a unique year for Craig given he’s in a wildcard.

"We’re taking this opportunity to put fans next to Lowndes live with everything happening around him.

"No one has won more races at Sandown than CL, so he’s the best person to take you for a detailed tour.

"It’s a great chance to take fans behind the scenes of how he does it."

Andrew Jones recently told Supercars.com that Lowndes' track time will also be of benefit to Smith.

"Any time there’s an opportunity of someone of Craig’s calibre to jump in our car, it’s worth looking at," Jones said.

"It’ll be cool for Lowndesy to be in the car, and it’ll be really cool for Jack too.

"Jack will be able to see how Lowndesy goes about his craft, which will be fantastic."

The 30-minute Additional Driver session is scheduled to take place on Friday at 3:20pm local time.
