Chaz Mostert has drawn parallels between Craig Lowndes and Broc Feeney after the latter won his very first Supercars race.

Feeney outlasted Mostert to win the VALO Adelaide 500 on Sunday — his first Supercars victory.

The rookie became the youngest Adelaide winner and second youngest winner ever.

Feeney had to do the job over Saturday’s winner Mostert, who is 10 years Feeney’s senior.

Try as he might, Mostert was unable to intimidate Feeney into a mistake.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver resorted to pushing the envelope at the Senna Chicane to make up any ground.

It was to no avail, Feeney winning by 0.9s — and it impressed Mostert.

“I enjoyed the race to the finish,” Mostert said.

“I gave it everything, I tried to use up my strikes there at the end across the kerbs.

“The young bloke channelled his inner Lowndesy — the kid did pretty good.

When asked if Feeney’s performance surprised him, Mostert replied: “Not at all. He’s in this sport for a reason.

“I tried my hardest to try and get the win today for my team.

“It’s fitting that a Holden team won today.”

Feeney effectively led from lap 22 after he took the lead thanks to an error by Will Davison.

The win came in Holden’s last race, and it was a fitting outcome given it was won by a driver named Broc.

The result also drew parallels to Jamie Whincup’s 2006 win — back then, a Triple Eight rookie won for the first time in Adelaide with the #88.

"I felt pretty good out the front, probably calmer than what I do out the back,” Feeney said.

"I could just focus on what I had to do and focus on the lap time and try and manage the gap behind."

Mostert finished third overall with five wins and nine more podiums.

Feeney was sixth overall with a win and two podiums, four positions higher than Whincup in 2006.

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next March.
