Chaz Mostert will look back on 2022 with “a lot of pride” having recorded his best season with regards to results.

Mostert ended the season with a win and second place at the VALO Adelaide 500.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver’s Saturday win — leading Nick Percat in a one-two — was his fifth of the year.

It equalled his five wins in 2015 when he was at Tickford Racing (then named Prodrive Racing Australia).

He also scored nine more podiums, his total of 14 matching his career-best haul from 2015.

Mostert finished third overall, putting the results to good use to complete an overall career-best year.

In 2015, he finished 11th due to his season-ending crash in Bathurst.

It was a smart return considering his trough in the middle of the season.

Mostert won races in Sydney and Albert Park, but a nightmare Perth dropped him out of contention.

No podiums in Tasmania, Perth, Winton and Townsville all but ended his title chances.

However, Mostert scored at least one podium from Tailem Bend onwards, and nearly stole second from Cam Waters.

The 30-year-old entered Adelaide 175 points behind Waters, and ended 73 points down.

“Incredible weekend, one that means a lot to a heap of people so its something I’ll never forget,” he said.

“Today we just couldn’t quite get there but boy we had a crack, we didn’t leave anything on the table.

“I think we will look back at this weekend, and the year with a lot of pride.

“Thanks to everyone that’s come along for the journey this year, and of course the team.”

WAU will now prepare its two Ford Mustangs for 2023, having secured the blockbuster brand switch earlier this year.

Mostert reunites with the Blue Oval, having raced Fords between 2013 and 2019.

Percat, meanwhile, has only raced Commodores in Supercars.

Mostert was proud to help farewell Holden with a win, and hoped fans of WAU will stick with the team in its next adventure.

“Thank you as well to all the Holden fans that have backed this team for so long,” he said.

“We hope you can stick by us next year, but if not, thank you.”

Percat added: “Huge thank you to the team and all our partners this year, its been tough, but the support has been incredible.

“To end the year by finally getting a trophy, alongside Chaz, in Adelaide is just something I’ll never forget, and makes this off-season a lot easier.

"I’m pumped for next year.

“Thank you as well to all the Holden fans, it’s been a heck of a ride, and they are as passionate as they come.”

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next March.

Tickets are on sale on Supercars.com and Ticketek.com.
