While Super Black spin brings out red flag late in the session.

Greg Murphy and Steven Richards traded times in the final seconds, but it was 'Murph' who topped the co-driver only practice session at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Murphy, driving with James Courtney, jumped to the top in the Holden Racing Team Commodore in the final 20 seconds, and finally delivered a 2min08.5365, just 0.3055 quicker than Richards, pairing with Lowndes, in the Red Bull Commodore.

The red flag flew late in the session for Super Black young gun Andre Heimgartner, who spun at McPhillamy Park, reportedly on oil, though the Falcon was not damaged.

Behind Richards it was Luke Youlden (Fabian Coulthard), Dean Canto (David Reynolds), Tim Blanchard (Russell Ingall), Steve Owen (Mark Winterbottom), Chris Pither (Dale Wood), Alex Premat (Scott McLaughlin), Taz Douglas (James Moffat) and Paul Dumbrell (Jamie Whincup).

Others to note include Tony D'Alberto (Tim Slade) in 14th, after sitting at the top for the majority of the session, Jonathon Webb (Shane van Gisbergen) 15th after saying over the radio that the VIP Petfoods Commodore felt 'weird' early in the session and Warren Luff (Garth Tander) 24th after suspected driveline issues.
