PremiAir Racing will take a different route to Gen3, with Supercars' newest team set to receive turnkey Triple Eight-built cars.

Gen3 car builds are in full swing, with a number of teams revealing their progress.

Notably, Blanchard Racing Team unveiled a near-complete car, with Penrite Racing and Brad Jones Racing also showing off their chassis.

Where teams are building cars in-house, PremiAir Racing will take ownership of two turnkey cars.

However, PremiAir Racing staff will still assist in the builds of their two Camaros.

That was a key element of the process for PremiAir Racing Team Principal Matt Cook, who is excited for the next phase of the team’s Supercars programme.

“It almost feels criminal — we’re buying our cars from Triple Eight,” Cook told Supercars’ Cool Down Lap podcast.

“We’re going to receive them turnkey, ready to go.

“Having said that, all of my guys are going to go down to Triple Eight and put them together.

“We don’t have the stress of most other teams.

“But when all the bits are laying on the bench, all our blokes will be down there putting them together.”

The turnkey Camaros will come with a technical alliance with Triple Eight.

It ensures PremiAir Racing will be a team to watch in 2023, having recruited veteran driver Tim Slade.

Slade, after signing for the team, said the Triple Eight alliance had crossed his mind.

Golding nearly scored a Bathurst top 10

“I have actually thought about that,” Slade told V8 Sleuth of PremiAir’s Triple Eight links.

“Even though it’s obviously a different generation car, it will be quite cool to be aligned with them.

“I have done it for a while and it’s something that I’ve never driven.

Two brand new cars is a far cry to what PremiAir Racing began 2022 with, having taken over Team Sydney.

Peter Xiberras’ squad took two old chassis, but slowly got up to speed and turned a corner when it signed James Golding.

Golding reached Shootouts and scored a number of top 10 finishes, with the team also moving into its new Arundel workshop mid-season.

PremiAir Racing, while only a year old, is now armed with new cars, new drivers and a first full year in its new workshop.

PremiAir Racing also has a strong line-up

Such is the confidence that Xiberras' team — which also runs a successful drag racing squad — is also entering in next month’s LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour.

“It was tough; the team really kicked off in January, but it didn’t start to get the wheels in motion until February,” Cook said of 2022.

“Without being too disrespectful, we inherited a broken-down truck and two run-down cars.

“We had to do a lot in a short period of time. We also moved factories.

“The one thing we couldn’t lack performance or reliability, we definitely tried to do that.

“It’s no secret we had a driver shuffle midway through the year, that’s always interesting."

PremiAir Racing will join Queensland-based teams in shaking down their new Gen3 cars at Queensland Raceway on January 30.

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle on March 10-12.

Tickets are on sale on Supercars.com and Ticketek.com.
