Matt Payne and Cameron Hill will both compete for this year’s Super2 title with an eye on 2023.

Payne and Hill are two of five drivers in contention for the 2022 Dunlop Super2 Series title.

Payne is third in the points, and Hill fourth. The two drivers are split by just 33 points.

The driver that finishes ahead of the other will win this year’s Super2 Rookie of the Year award.

The accolade is awarded to the highest-placed rookie in the Super2 standings.

Payne and Hill are also in the frame to win this year’s Mike Kable ‘Young Gun’ Award.

Both drivers are in a unique situation — not only are they 2022 Super2 rookies, but they’ll be Supercars rookies in 2023.

Payne will replace the retiring Lee Holdsworth at Penrite Racing.

Hill, meanwhile, will take over at Matt Stone Racing from the Blanchard-bound Todd Hazelwood.

Payne and Hill will be the only two rookies on the 2023 Supercars grid.

It matches the crop of two rookies from 2022, being Broc Feeney and Thomas Randle.

Payne and Hill can also match Feeney and Randle by taking a Super2 title into the main game.

Randle won the 2020 title and clocked wildcard starts with Tickford Racing before debuting full-time in 2022.

Feeney, meanwhile, won the 2021 Super2 title and replaced the retiring Jamie Whincup at Red Bull Ampol Racing.

Supercars and Super2 will be on track on all four days of the VALO Adelaide 500.

Super2 points leader Declan Fraser leads Zak Best by 75 points, with Payne 132 points behind in third.
