SVG aids Holden's historic charge: Race 23 takeaways

06 Nov 2021
Shane van Gisbergen helped Holden to its 16th win in 23 starts

Saturday night belonged to Shane van Gisbergen at the ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight.

Race 23 was van Gisbergen's 13th win of 2021, and the 53rd of his career.

It brings van Gisbergen closer to matching the win tallies of Scott McLaughlin and Garth Tander.

Only six drivers have won 13 or more races in a season. Each time, they went on to win the title.

It was also the 56th race win for the ZB Commodore model, which made its Supercars debut in 2018.

It is now the fourth most successful model in ATCC/Supercars history, jumping Ford's FG Falcon (55).

Only the VF Commodore (108), VE/VE II Commodore (103) and VT Commodore (63) won more races.

Ford's Mustang GT, which added two wins courtesy of Anton De Pasquale last weekend, is on 44 wins.

The result ensures Holden has an unassailable lead in the Champion Manufacturer fight.

Commodores have won 16 races to Ford's seven in 2021. With eight races remaining this season, Holden will clinch its first title since 2018, and 15th overall.

Conversely, Ford has won eight, and the last two titles.

Jamie Whincup helped Red Bull Ampol Racing to a one-two in its 250th round start.

It was Whincup's 11th podium of the season, and record 14th at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Will Davison finished third; the Shell V-Power Racing Team driver recorded his 64th career podium, bringing him within one of Dick Johnson.

It was Davison's 10th podium of the season, with the veteran retaining third overall.

Cars will return to the track on Sunday for Race 24 qualifying at 2:30pm AEDT.

Race 24 will commence at 4:35pm, with the floodlit Race 25 to follow at 7:30pm.

Tickets for all Sydney events are on sale now.
