V8 Supercars truly is a national sport, with fans in every corner of the country - some hundreds of kilometres from the nearest race track

On Saturday, the V8 Supercars show rolled into the small Queensland country town of Barcaldine, about 450km west of Rockhampton.

The town's day was brightened by the arrival of the gleaming race transporters for Red Bull Racing Australia and Team Darrell Lea STIX, en route to Hidden Valley Raceway for next weekend's SKYCITY Triple Crown Darwin.

The trucks arrived at theBarcaldine Showgrounds in the afternoon, where they were greeted by an excited group of locals, who don't get the opportunity to get up close to these spectacular machines very often.

Established in 1886, Barcaldine is famous as one of the largest cattle producing regions in Central Western Queensland. The town has been officially drought stricken since 2013, with the population of around 1400 battling the tough conditions with typical country strength and vigour.

Tony Scriven, owner of the Commercial Hotel in Barcaldine and former V8 Supercars volunteer, said that it was fantastic the teams had chosen to stop in the small town on their way to the Northern Territory.

"Everyone in town is so excited to have them here. It's not often that we get to see this kind of thing in Barcaldine, so it's pretty special," Scriven said.

"It's been a very tough time for the people of this region, so anything that can give them a bit of a smile and a moment of enjoyment is fantastic.

"It's truly wonderful that the teams made the effort to not only come through Barcaldine, but also take the time to stop so that our people could get up close and personal with their beautiful transporters."

The V8 Supercars hit the tracknext weekend, June 19-21 with the SKYCITY Triple Crown Darwin, round five of the 2015 Championship - tickets are available by clicking here.
