A late flyer has helped Cam Waters pace opening practice at Wanneroo Raceway.

Anton De Pasquale vaulted to second late on on a 54.161s ahead of Jack Le Brocq.

Le Brocq’s 23 laps was the biggest haul of the 30-minute session.

Points leader Shane van Gisbergen led for the balance of the session, and wound up 13th.

The top 20 runners were covered by less than a second.

“Obviously the track is degrading, which is what we expected,” Waters said.

"It was more just how much it was going to degrade.

"Our team did a really good job having a good place for practice.

“Hopefully we can keep moving forward."

The session ran largely incident-free, although James Courtney and Todd Hazelwood made minor contact at Turn 7.

Andre Heimgartner also found the Turn 7 sand after 12 minutes of running.
