Chaz Mostert beats Will Brown to GT title in Bathurst
Supercars rivals have also fought for GT crown in 2024
Brown and Broc Feeney to fight for Supercars title in Adelaide
While he is unable to challenge Will Brown for the Repco Supercars Championship next weekend, Chaz Mostert has managed to get some revenge with a GT title win in Bathurst.
Supercars rivals Mostert and Brown have gone head-to-head in this year’s Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS season, which ended at Mount Panorama on Sunday.
There, Mostert combined with Liam Talbot to clinch the GT title, with Brown runner-up with Brad Schumacher.
Mostert/Talbot and Brown/Schumacher went into Sunday’s final race as the only remaining pairings in contention for the GT title.
Two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Mostert had it all to do in his Arise Racing-prepared Ferrari, starting from the back on Sunday after being disqualified from qualifying.
Triple Eight driver Brown — who leads the Supercars standings by 180 points from teammate Broc Feeney — started fourth in his Melbourne Performance Centre Audi, but fell back early.
Brown, who won Saturday's race, saw MPC teammate Brendon Leitch skip away to an early lead, with Supercars driver and Mostert’s Arise teammate Jaxon Evans chasing his Kiwi countryman in second.
As the Pro drivers handed over to their Am partners, the Leitch/Tim Miles was taken out of contention due to a pit infringement penalty. The Evans car was also hit with a five-second penalty over an unsafe release, with victory eventually falling the way of the Alex Peroni/Mark Rosser Team BRM Audi.
Mostert/Talbot finished third behind Supercars co-driver and 2022 Super2 champion Declan Fraser, who shared his Triple Eight-prepared Mercedes-AMG with Peter Hackett.
Third was more than enough for Mostert to win his maiden GT World Challenge Australia title, with Brown sixth in the race and second overall.
Brown and Feeney will fight for the Supercars title at the VAILO Adelaide 500, while Mostert is 309 points down in third with 300 to win.
