Supercars legend Craig Lowndes has kicked his Finke debut off in style, topping the Production 4WD class in the prologue.

Lowndes and co-driver Dale Moscatt carried their Chevrolet Silverado to prologue honours at the 2024 Tatts Finke Desert Race on Saturday.

Seven-time Bathurst winner Lowndes, a Finke rookie, clocked a 5:51.094s, with the prologue loop setting the order for the run to Aputula on Sunday.

Lowndes and Moscatt were eight seconds faster than the Ford Performance Ranger Raptor of Brad and Byam Lovell.

The two entries will start from 74th and 85th respectively on Sunday.

“We had a sighting lap and then of course once you get 100 buggies and trucks go by, it was a little bit different for our prologue time,” Supercars Hall of Famer Lowndes said.

“The water dispersed but being hard pack, it spread a bit like an ice skating rink. So we had to be a little bit careful in some sections.

“But we had some good whoops sections where we got some are and the truck was great.”

Beau Robinson won the Cars prologue alongside co-driver Shane Hutt in their Trophy Truck. Liam Walsh took out the Bikes prologue.
