David Reynolds, Cameron Hill explain violet Turn 8 crashes
Reynolds, Hill crashed heavily in Boost Mobile Qualifying
Camaros in doubt for rest of weekend, qualifying suspended
David Reynolds and Cameron Hill have both walked away from dramatic incidents at Adelaide's infamous Turn 8, which brought Race 23 qualifying to an early end.
Chevrolet drivers Reynolds and Hill crashed heavily at the fast right-hander in the early minutes of Boost Mobile Qualifying on Friday.
Just 24 seconds after Richie Stanaway came to grief at Turn 8, Hill crashed his Matt Stone Racing Camaro after clipping the inside kerb, with the Canberran's car pinballing off the inside wall.
Mark Winterbottom, Tim Slade and all four Brad Jones Racing drivers passed Hill, but as red flags unfurled, Reynolds crashed.
Just 11 seconds after Hill's accident, the Practice 2 fast man wrecked his new TRADIE Beer Camaro, which slid down the road and hit Hill's stricken car.
Speaking afterwards, Reynolds said he saw yellow flags for the Hill crash, but was unable to avoid his own accident.
"There was a bit of yellow flags, I didn't know what was going on the other side" Reynolds said after returning to the paddock.
"So you try and lose a little bit of speed and I'll probably stay out on the brake for a bit too long and just turn myself into the fence and had to crash myself.
"I was probably just over committed to be fair, stupid mistake... I feel sorry for the boys, and hopefully we can fix it and get out tomorrow.
"We've got one of the fastest cars in pit lane, so it's just a shame."
Hill, who crashed at the same corner in his Super2 year in 2022, and on debut with MSR last year, was devastated.
"The exact same crash I had last year. I'm three from three with Turn 8 at the moment," the 27-year-old said.
"So, I hope that's me done for that corner. I feel like I've paid my dues. I'm gutted for the guys.
"Like, it's pretty cooked... first push lap, it is different. You know, there's a lot of shadows there, but I'm not going to say that that's why I shunted."
The session was ultimately suspended, with championship leader Will Brown quickest at the time of the stoppage. Officials later advised that the session would not resume, gifting Brown provisional pole.
Supercars will return on Saturday with Practice 3 at 10:00am local time/10:30am AEDT, followed by the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 12:35pm/1:05pm AEDT.
The Shootout will set the grid for the first 78-lap race of the weekend, Race 23, at 3:20pm local time/3:50pm AEDT.
