Famous DJR Mustangs heading to Penske Museum
Chassis DJRTP06 and DJRTP07 to be transported to Arizona
Scott McLaughlin won 31 races aboard DJRTP06, DJRTP07
Famous Ford Mustangs will reunite with another Falcon in the United States, with Dick Johnson Racing farewelling two of its most successful cars.
Recently revealed by DJR Team Principal Dr Ryan Story on social media, the two remaining McLaughlin-driven, DJR Team Penske-built chassis will head across the Pacific.
Story confirmed to Supercars.com that the cars, DJRTP06 and DJRTP07, will be transported in the New Year to the Penske Museum in Arizona, where they will be put on display.
There, DJRTP06 and DJRTP07 will be placed alongside DJRTP04, which as a Falcon FG X, was carried to championship success by McLaughlin in 2018.
McLaughlin's 2018 triumph was the last by a Falcon in Supercars, before Ford teams campaigned the Mustang from 2019. McLaughlin added two more titles, in 2019 and 2020, before pursuing IndyCar.
McLaughlin's first Mustang chassis, DJRTP06, was raced to a record 18 wins in the first 25 races, including the 2019 Bathurst 1000. However, the car never raced again following an accident on the Gold Coast.
McLaughlin shifted into DJRTP07 for the remainder of the 2019 season and the entirety of 2020, winning 13 races and a third consecutive championship.
All told, McLaughlin won 18 races with DJRTP06 and 13 with DJRTP07, which will both sit alongside DJRTP04 in Arizona.
McLaughlin was reunited with DJRTP04 in mid-2022 when it arrived in the United States, with DJRTP06 repaired and restored following the 2019 accident.
DJRTP06 was put on display at The Bend Motorsport Park's museum late in 2023, where it remained before returning to DJR headquarters in Queensland.
The next round of DJR roll cages will be built by rival team Erebus Motorsport in an historic partnership between the two teams, although the cars will otherwise be prepared and run by DJR itself.
The team will welcome 2023 champion Brodie Kostecki next season, with the reigning Bathurst champion to join incumbent Will Davison from 2025.
DJR's 2025 campaign will commence at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 21-23. Tickets are on sale now.
