Engine change for Jack Le Brocq Camaro
Le Brocq forced into late DNF in Sydney
Brodie Kostecki charged from 18th to 10th
Erebus Motorsport is already hard at work changing the engine in Jack Le Brocq’s Chevrolet, following a late-race failure in Sydney.
While running 18th, Le Brocq was forced into retirement late in Race 15, after smoke and flames emanated from underneath the #9 Wake Up! Camaro.
Le Brocq — who managed to return his car to pit lane— was the only DNF in the race, which was won by Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Chaz Mostert.
In a bright spark for the reigning champions, Brodie Kostecki motored from 18th to 10th, which was the #1 driver’s second top 10 of the season.
However, it was a motor that finally brought Le Brocq’s day undone, following a mid-race time penalty over an unsafe release on Andre Heimgartner.
“We struggled in qualifying today, that’s something we’ve all got to work pretty hard on tonight, to try and make sure we get that right. It’s hard starting back where we did," Le Brocq said in a team video.
“We were both pretty fast, which was great, Bush [Kostecki] got to the top 10, which was pretty awesome.
“Unfortunately for myself, we were trucking along pretty well, had a pit lane infringement unfortunately, but some great pace in the car.
“Unfortunately the boys have got a donk to change overnight, so we’ll come back swinging tomorrow."
The Le Brocq engine change comes amid a trying run of car troubles for Erebus, with Kostecki a non-starter due to an engine issue in Darwin.
Kostecki was forced into retirement at the previous round in Perth, while Le Brocq was forced to start from pit lane due to a battery issue.
Supercars will return to the track on Sunday for Boost Mobile Qualifying at 12:05pm AEST, before the Top Ten Shootout at 1:40pm. The Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight will conclude with Race 16 at 4:05pm.
