Fast Facts: BP Ultimate Sydney SuperSprint

1) This event marks the 28th time the Repco Supercars Championship has held a round at Sydney Motorsport Park and is the first time any venue has held three consecutive rounds in championship history.

2) Red Bull Ampol Racing’s drivers will both reach major milestones in their Supercars careers this weekend. Jamie Whincup will make his 250th round start at the BP Ultimate Sydney SuperSprint (the sixth driver to do so) and his 550th championship race start (the seventh driver to do so) in the second race of the event. Meantime, Shane van Gisbergen will make his 200th round start this weekend, bringing him level with fellow Kiwi legend Greg Murphy’s current career tally.

3) Brad Jones Racing’s Nick Percat will make his 250th championship race start in the second race of this weekend. The 33-year-old made his ATCC/SC debut back in 2010 at the Phillip Island 500, driving for Walkinshaw Racing alongside Andrew Thompson. His career tally places him 10th among active drivers, behind Chaz Mostert (256 prior to this weekend) and ahead of Cameron Waters (183 prior to this weekend).

4) Luke Youlden will also reach an unexpected career milestone at the BP Ultimate Sydney SuperSprint. The 43-year-old will make his 50th championship round start in his second event substituting for David Reynolds at Kelly Grove Racing. Youlden debuted in 2000 at the Queensland 500, meaning it has taken 21 years to reach his half century of round starts – the second longest of any driver in ATCC/SC history. It’s taken so long to reach the milestone given he’s been an endurance driver for all bar one of those round starts, last weekend’s ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight.

5) Shell V-Power Racing Team drivers Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison finished one-two in the overall round points in last weekend’s ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight. It’s the first time Dick Johnson Racing’s drivers have scored the most points across a championship weekend since the Newcastle round in 2019, while it marks the first time De Pasquale has been the top point scorer across a round in his ATCC/SC career.

6) Shane van Gisbergen is just three race wins off matching Garth Tander and Scott McLaughlin for equal fourth on the all-time race wins list in championship history. The current championship leader has won 53 races.

7) Eight different drivers have taken ARMOR ALL Pole Positions so far this season, with Will Brown adding himself to the list last weekend with his first career ATCC/SC pole. Anton De Pasquale leads the pack with eight, while Shane van Gisbergen is next best on six. Cam Waters is next on four, Jamie Whincup and Will Davison each have two, while Brown, Chaz Mostert and Andre Heimgartner each have one apiece.

8) Holden teams have struggled to score ARMOR ALL Pole Positions at Sydney Motorsport Park in recent history – they’ve taken just three of the last 22 – but they’ve shown no shortage of pace in races: Commodores have clocked the fastest lap in 13 of the last 16 races at this venue.

9) Race 3 of the ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight marked the fourth time that a red flag has halted an ATCC/SC race at Sydney Motorsport Park. Race 3 in 1999 was red-flagged after a multi-car accident on the first lap forced a complete restart over a shorter distance, while heavy rain forced a premature finish to both the Sunday race at the 2003 Grand Finale and the April 2004 round.

10) Just six of this year’s 25 races have had an appearance from the BP Ultimate Safety Car. Last Sunday night’s race was the first time this season a race had seen multiple Safety Car periods.
