The Bryce Fullwood car has avoided incurring major damage after a late-practice crash in Darwin.

Territorian-born Fullwood found the Turn 10 barriers in opening Merlin Darwin Triple Crown practice.

The incident came on Fullwood’s final flying lap, with the 24-year-old dropping the right side of his car on the grass.

The #14 Middy’s Commodore slid into the tyre barriers at speed, but he avoided major impact.

However, the car incurred rear wing, rear bumper and tail light damage.

Running repairs ensured Fullwood will return to the track for Practice 2.

"I just dropped the right-rear wheel on the turn-in point at the worst point you possibly can,” he said.

"I was a passenger into the fence, unfortunately.

"Luckily, the gravel trap there washed a lot of the speed off. I tagged the tyre wall, but very minimally.

"It didn’t bend anything or anything like that, so that’s good.

"Pushing hard, trying to use every inch, and used one inch too many."

Fullwood was 27th and last in the session, which was topped by Chaz Mostert.

Fullwood’s Brad Jones Racing teammate was fifth. Macauley Jones was 15th, with Jack Smith 24th.

Cars will return to the track for Practice 2 at 2:05pm local time.
