General Motors responds to Triple Eight Ford news
GM has "eyes forward on 2025" despite Triple Eight decision
Triple Eight has raced GM machinery in Supercars since 2010
General Motors has responded to Triple Eight Race Engineering's decision to switch to Ford in 2026, in a switch that has made global headlines.
Confirmed Friday, Triple Eight will return to Ford in 2026, 16 years after the team switched to Holden Commodores and, later, Chevrolet Camaros.
Triple Eight has been GM's nominated homologation team in Supercars since 2017, and has won nine drivers' championships and seven Bathurst 1000s with the powerhouse brand since 2010.
Recently, Triple Eight spearheaded the Chevrolet Camaro's homologation and entry into Supercars in 2023 at the commencement of the Gen3 era.
At current, GM is represented by Triple Eight, Erebus Motorsport, Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing, Brad Jones Racing and Team 18 in Supercars.
GM cars have won the last four drivers' and teams' championships, as well as the last five Bathurst 1000s.
A statement by Jess Bala, Managing Director GM ANZ, was released to media on Friday, saying: “GM has had a long and highly successful partnership with Triple Eight Race Engineering.
"We share the disappointment with fans about their decision, and the news that they will be moving to Ford in 2026.
"Eyes forward on the 2025 Supercars season – and we look forward to extending our full support to all the Chevrolet Racing Camaro teams, for another year of on track success.”
Ford is currently represented in Supercars by Tickford Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Dick Johnson Racing, Grove Racing and Blanchard Racing Team.
Tickets to the Sydney 500 - Opening Round, on February 21-23, are on now.
