The Super2 crown is on the line at the VAILO Adelaide 500 after a dramatic Saturday.

Kai Allen turned a 30-point deficit into a 33-point lead in Race 1, with erstwhile leader Zak Best penalised over a clash with Nash Morris.

Best crossed the line fourth, but was relegated to 13th in the Super2 classification after he was hit with a 15-second time penalty.

With Allen ahead, Best must finish ahead and hope his Eggleston Motorsport driver isn't directly behind him. Allen can finish fourth to clinch the crown, having led at no point during the year before Saturday.

Best will start Sunday's race from the front row with Saturday winner Ryan Wood, with Allen starting fourth alongside Wood's teammate Zach Bates.

However, Best has a trump card if the drivers end the season tied on points. Both drivers have two race wins each, but Best has more second place finishes. Best has three runner-up finishes to Allen's one.

If Best is third, Allen must finish sixth. They would be tied on points if Allen was seventh, handing the title to Best on countback.

The countback would also be triggered if the same scenario saw Best and Allen finish fifth and 10th, sixth and 12th, seventh and 14th, eighth and 16th, and ninth and 18th.

There are 18 cars in the Super2 field, with the Super3 title wrapped up by Image Racing's Jobe Stewart on Saturday.
