Angelo Mouzouris has admitted he was left "speechless" after beating a talent-stacked grid to Dunlop Series pole position at Bathurst.
The 19-year-old pipped highly-fancied Triple Eight teammate Broc Feeney by just 0.040s to clinch his maiden development series pole.
It came after a trying first season in 2020, with Mouzouris' first Triple Eight campaign limited to just three rounds due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I didn't think this was going to happen today," Mouzouris beamed.
"I'm speechless. It's awesome.
"That's a great way to start the year, a pole for Triple Eight and a pole for me."
On Friday, Mouzouris was sixth in Practice 1, before dropping to 12th in the second session.
However, he returned on Saturday to drop his #10 pitbox.io VF Commodore into P1 for the first time.
"We had a real battle yesterday in practice with no brakes, so I wasn't sure how this session was going to play out," he said.
"It's a great reward for the team."
Mouzouris will start from pole for Race 1 at the Repco Mt Panorama 500 at 1:40pm AEDT.
This weekend’s event will be broadcast live on Foxtel and the Seven Network, and will be streamed on Kayo. Check out the full TV schedule here.
