From exploding onto the V8 Supercars scene to four Bathurst 1000 wins, dozens of V8 Supercar podiums and some of the best moments in Australasian motorsport history, Greg Murphy has been entertaining crowds as one of New Zealand's most iconic motorsport personalities for two decades.

Fans of the Kiwi racer can nab their very own piece of motorsport memorabilia as 'Murph' auctions off some of his best goodies this weekend, Sunday June 1 at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park in his native New Zealand.

Many items will be up for sale on the day, ranging from highly coveted items of Murphy's career highlights to-date, to the fun and achievable auction priced items, making it a great event for bidders of all levels.

Having recently relocated back to New Zealand from Melbourne and having to transport enough race overalls, limited edition prints, caps, die cast collectable cars and team apparel to fill two garages, Greg and his father Kevin realised they probably didn't need it all.

"I guess all of us at one point have been surprised at how much stuff we've accumulated when it comes time to put it all in one place," Murphy said.

"Well, I think I've taken that to the limit! I can't keep collecting and hoarding it and I've got my fair share of legacy items for myself and the family. If there are race fans who will get enjoyment from owning these things then I'm happy to see it go."

There is significant heritage amongst the items on offer, including Murphy's 1997 HRT Race overalls from his first full-time V8 Supercars season where he picked up his second Sandown 500 victory with Craig Lowndes, the 2002 Kmart Racing overalls from his infamous five-minute penalty at Bathurst, the overalls from the 2003 Bathurst pole-setting 2min06.8594 "Lap of the Gods" and Bathurst win, the 2004 Bathurst winning overalls and those worn during the Bathurst 24 hour win with Peter Brock.

Podium hats, all marked with the details of the win, team apparel from professional drives - not just in Holdens either. Numerous limited edition racing prints and collectable die-cast model cars, even the bonnet of Murph's Pepsi Max V8 Supercar all go toward adornments of the ultimate man cave. All collectable items will be issued with a certificate of authenticity.

There will be chances to win apparel and even a hot lap with the man himself with spot prizes drawn on the day for those who register on arrival.

Murphy will also be conducting Hot Laps in a genuine V8 Supercar, with 20 chances to ride with the man himself being auctioned in support of the Spinal Cord Society of NZ.

There will be race cars from past and present on display and circulating the track, a selection of the motoring industry's finest vehicles will be on show and Holden will also have a free of charge skid pan experience operating.

Murphy, whose family is directly impacted by Type 1 Diabetes, is also committed to assisting the Spinal Cord Society of NZ advance vital cord blood stem cell research aimed at the reversal of this condition. A portion of the funds raised, including all profits of 20 V8 Supercar Hot Laps, will be donated to the charity.

The will be a combination of live and silent auctions as well as gold coin donation items on the day and the collection promises something for all budgets. For serious collectors unable to attend on the day a special registration and phone bidding option is available.
