Chevrolet's Supercars teams set to benefit from increased support from GM Motorsports in America
  • Chevrolet's Supercars teams to work in tighter collaboration from 2026

  • Alliances to also be formed with GM Motorsports in America, NASCAR teams

  • Team 18 confirmed as GM's new homologation team today following Triple Eight's defection

As part of General Motors' ongoing commitment to the Repco Supercars Championship, all teams running Chevrolet equipment are set to benefit from strengthened ties to GM Motorsports in America.

GM Motorsports' newfound level of involvement in the series is two-fold, with alliances to be formed both locally amongst Chevrolet's contingent of Supercars outfits, and internationally with GM and their teams in global categories.

All Chevrolet teams will have access to GM Motorsports' American technical resources, whilst all teams locally will work in closer collaboration, ensuring GM Australia & New Zealand's commitment to the category.

Friday's press release also stated that there will be increased opportunities for Chevrolet's Supercars teams and drivers to compete in series outside of Supercars with Chevrolet and GM.

NASCAR is an obvious candidate given the new alliance between Australia and America will also see teams build stronger relationships with GM's NASCAR operations.

GT racing could also be a viable option, with GM running a Corvette GT3 program in global competition, though we have yet to see one in Australia, including at the Bathurst 12 Hour.

So far Team 18, Erebus Motorsport, and Matt Stone Racing are all locked in to running Camaros in the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship, taking on Ford and a new challenge from Toyota.

Brad Jones Racing's future with GM is uncertain, amid recent links to Toyota which team owner Brad Jones addressed in this morning's team owners press conference.

Having long been considered the favourite to take over as GM's homologation team, there have also been early links between PremiAir Racing and Ford.

Supercars will return on Saturday for back-to-back Boost Mobile Qualifying sessions from 10:25am NZST/8:25am AEST, which will set the grids for the dual 120km sprints.
