Roland Dane hands over the 2006 Bathurst-winning Ford

Outgoing Triple Eight Race Engineering boss Roland Dane has stressed the importance of preserving the rich history of the Great Race.

Dane handed over the 2006 Betta Electrical-liveried Ford BA Falcon to a new display home.

Supercars in conjunction with Muscle Car Warehouse has pieced together an exhibition of iconic Blue Oval cars, which is on display in the Bathurst paddock.

Among the historic Fords is the 2006 Betta Falcon, which was the first Triple Eight car to win the Bathurst 1000.

The car was by Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup to an emotional win, with the duo becoming the first recipients of the Peter Brock Trophy.

Sold by Triple Eight to a private collector in November, the Falcon is set to join the historic display at the Muscle Car Warehouse headquarters in Sydney.

Dane passed on the important piece of Supercars history to MCW representative Phil Grant on Saturday.

"It’s an important car for us and for the sport and after many years at Triple Eight, we've decided to sell the car and found a good home for it," Dane told Supercars.com.

"We've got so much going on at Triple Eight and expansion plans and everything, that it's time to find a new home for it, and it can hopefully be enjoyed by other people for many years to come.

"The history of motorsport in Australia is all around us, with some great cars here and at the National Motor Racing Museum and other places in Australia.

"They represent different eras, so and they will still be there when other people like me are all dead.

"The cars represent the continuity between the different areas of the sport, and this is an important component of that.

"Very proud of what we've done with the car and very proud of the standard that it was.

"It was rebuilt some years ago by Gary Bailey, who's the number one on the car when it raced race here in 2006.

"It is a significant bit of history for Triple Eight but also for the sport."

Supercars will return to the track on Saturday for Practice 6 at 12:15pm AEDT. Click here to view the track schedule.

Every session of the event will be broadcast live on Foxtel (Fox Sports 503) and streamed on Kayo.

The Seven Network will provide live free to air coverage of the event. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
