To celebrate the launch of the all-new Nissan Altima sedan into the Australian new car market, Nissan Motorsport will carry special ‘Altima’ branding on its four Nissan Altima V8 Supercars at the Sargent Security Phillip Island 360.
‘Altima’ will appear on the front bar of the Jack Daniel’s Nissans of Todd and Rick Kelly and the top of the windscreens on the Norton Hornets of Michael Caruso and James Moffat.
While the Altima name and body shape are already widely known and well received as a result of Nissan’s entry in the V8 Supercars Championship, the sedan is debuting in the medium passenger segment of the Australian new car market.
“We’ve been in a unique situation in that we’ve had the race car for nearly 12 months and not been able to leave the track in a Nissan Altima road car,” driver and team owner Todd Kelly said.
“All that now changes and I am extremely excited to have my race car represented on the road.”
The Nissan Altima V8 Supercar was unveiled to the world on October 30, 2012, in Melbourne, before making its racing debut at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide in March this year. The race car then scored its first victory in the hands of Moffat at the Winton 360 in rural Victoria, with teammate Caruso following him home in second place.
The Nissan Altima is on-sale in Nissan dealerships around Australia from the first week of December.
“It’s very exciting for everyone at Nissan and everyone at the Nissan Motorsport race team. As drivers, we’ve been lucky enough to drive the Altima all year, but now, people will have the chance to drive one for themselves,” Caruso said.
“It will be great to have a steer of the Australian road version. I was lucky enough to drive a couple of Altimas while we were in America, so I can’t wait to feel what they’re like on Australian roads.”
James Moffat added: “Hopefully we can start doing some more winning on Sunday, selling on Monday!”
The Sargent Security Phillip Island 360 is the penultimate event of the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship, with practice beginning tomorrow ahead of qualifying and the 60/60 Super Sprint race Saturday, followed by two qualifying sessions and two 100 kilometre races on Sunday.
Tickets are still available for the event through Ticketek.
