Jack Perkins to race BRT Super2 Ford in Townsville
Perkins' Dunlop Series return comes in retro livery
New-look car pays tribute to 1979 Perkins/Janson Torana
Jack Perkins will return to the Dunlop Series in a new-look Blanchard Racing Team Ford, complete in a stunning retro livery.
The second-generation racer will compete at the upcoming NTI Townsville 500, gaining valuable laps ahead of this year’s enduros.
Perkins will reunite with James Courtney for Sandown and Bathurst, with the duo previously racing together out of the Walkinshaw stable between 2015 and 2019.
Courtney and Perkins won on the Gold Coast in 2015, and raced to third at the 2019 Bathurst 1000.
The latest livery pays tribute to the Holden Torana A9X raced by Larry Perkins and Peter Janson at the 1979 Great Race.
Perkins senior and Janson finished second in the 1979 race, behind Peter Brock and Jim Richards. Larry, now a Supercars Hall of Famer, won three straight Great Races with Brock between 1982 and 1984, before adding three more in the 1990s for his own team.
The BRT Ford will carry the #79, along with backing from long-time Perkins sponsor Shaw and Partners, RACE ONE, Southern Cross Truck Rentals, Muscle Car Warehouse, Haeusler’s, TLC Auto Centre and Castrol.
Perkins is no stranger to retro liveries, notably running his father’s 1993 Bathurst-winning Castrol colours last year, and a 1982 throwback at Sandown in 2022.
The 1979 livery was revealed earlier this year, albeit on BRT’s spare Gen3 Mustang, which was acquired from Tickford Racing.
Perkins tested the yellow and red BRT Super2 Ford, raced by Aaron Love in 2023, at Winton Motor Raceway on Wednesday.
Townsville track action will get underway on Friday July 5.
