VAILO Adelaide 500 track action commences Thursday
The tension on the championship front isn’t only related to the Repco Supercars Championship and Dunlop Series this weekend.
The Supercars, Super2 and Super3 titles will be decided at this weekend’s VAILO Adelaide 500, with track action commencing Thursday.
Erebus Motorsport’s Brodie Kostecki leads Triple Eight’s Shane van Gisbergen by 131 points, with Zak Best 30 points clear of Kai Allen in the Super2 standings. Jobe Stewart, meanwhile, is in the box seat to secure the Super3 title for Image Racing.
Beyond Supercars, there are a number of key title fights set to unfold on the Adelaide streets, with the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Championship to be settled in Adelaide.
Carrera Cup action will take place in Adelaide this year, with previous seasons decided on the Gold Coast.
The Championship and Endurance Cup titles in both classes will be on the line in what has been an epic season, with seven winners from seven rounds to date.
In the top class, Jackson Walls leads Callum Hedge by just 21 points, with a possible 181 up for grabs this weekend. Dylan O'Keeffe is a mathematical chance, 167 points down.
O’Keeffe is a better shot at claiming the Enduro Cup prize, leading Hedge by 17 points with Walls a further five points further back in third.
Drama on the Gold Coast saw Adrian Flack build a 23-point lead over Dean Cook, with Sam Shahin a further 28 in arrears in third position. The Pro-Am Endurance Cup is also close, with Flack 13 points ahead of Cook.
Aaron Cameron is also setting his sights on the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, with drivers also to battle for the Tasman Cup.
Cameron, who is also racing in Super2, is gunning for Garry Rogers Motorsport’s first Gold Coast. Cameron leads Cooper Webster by 84 points.
There is also a three-way fight for the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS title, with the title contenders calling up big names.
Liam Talbot (Audi), Geoff Emery (Audi) and Yasser Shahin (Porsche) have all called up world-class drivers as they shoot for title glory.
Points leader Talbot will be joined by two-time Bathurst 12 Hour winner and 2015 GT World Challenge Australia champion Chris Mies.
Emery will look for a record fourth GT World Challenge Australia Australia title with Max Hofer in his corner.
Factory Porsche star and 2016 Carrera Cup Australia champion Matt Campbell, meanwhile, will race with Shahin.
In Touring Car Masters, it will be a Johnson vs Hansford showdown. Three-time TCM champion Steven Johnson, aboard his 1969 Ford Mustang Trans Am, is battling Ryan Hansford and his Holden Torana A9X.
The pair are split by just 75 points with 200 up for grabs across three championship races and the inverted grid Trophy Race.
All categories will get track action on all four days of the November 23-26 event. Tickets are on sale now.
