10 races decided by less than a second in 2023
The two closest finishes came at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500
Bathurst 1000 delivered biggest margin between first and second
It was a Repco Supercars Championship of races going down to the wire in 2023.
Of 28 races, 17 were decided by less than two seconds, with 10 by less than a second.
In comparison, 13 of 2022's 34 races were settled by a margin of less than two seconds. Seven races ended with a margin of less than a second, up from four in 2021.
Remarkably, the two closest finishes of the season both came at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, with Cam Waters and David Reynolds winning thrillers.
Waters held out Shane van Gisbergen by 0.194s on the Saturday to win the closest ever Supercars race at Surfers Paradise. However, the record was reset 24 hours later when Reynolds denied Brodie Kostecki by 0.189s.
Van Gisbergen got his own back by winning at Albert Park by 0.391s and in Perth by 0.456s, both times beating Kostecki. The Perth result came after van Gisbergen and Kostecki laid down arguably the best battle of the year.
At the other end of the scale, van Gisbergen and Kostecki combined for the biggest margin of the year, with the former benefiting from a largely green flag Repco Bathurst 1000 to claim his third Great Race win by 19.932s, the biggest Bathurst-winning margin since 1999.
The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will commence at Mount Panorama at the Thrifty Bathurst 500 on February 23-25.
