Rick Kelly has revealed his latest venture, with the 2006 Supercars champion launching a Palm Springs-inspired oasis in Mildura.
Kelly, alongside father John, has spearheaded Trentham Waters Resort, which is poised to elevate the region's tourism landscape and redefine luxury hospitality.
The new resort, set to open between late 2024 to early 2025, is nestled amidst the iconic Mallee loam landscape.
Trentham Waters Resort, which incorporates the Murray River into its design, encourages travellers to experience the best of Mildura.
The resort offers a range of accommodation options, including villas, river retreats, wood-fired hot tubs, glamping tents, and drive-through caravan sites.
There will also be a sprawling 48-metre lagoon swimming pool and spa, accompanied by sunbeds and towering palm trees, as well as a kids pool, splash park, pump track, tennis court, mini-golf course, playground, and games room.
"It’s certainly a shift in industries, but we’ve always enjoyed a challenge, and this would have to be one of the biggest,” said Kelly, who started over 500 Supercars races, and last drove a car in late 2022.
"Our vision is to create a destination that celebrates the essence of relaxation and adventure amidst the iconic Mildura landscape.
"Our commitment is to create a haven where guests can immerse themselves in the tranquillity of Mildura's landscape while enjoying world-class amenities and hospitality.
“In my Supercars career, I travelled extensively, yet Mildura remains my favourite destination due to its climate, river, and surroundings.
“After leaving Supercars, I wanted to give back to Mildura and share my love for the region.
“Trentham Waters Resort allows me to do just that, offering a unique experience that will attract new visitors and benefit the local community and businesses.
“Ken Ross, Tim Elstone, Daniel Linklater and the Wentworth Council Team have been fantastic in assisting us throughout the planning process and in helping to actualise the project.”
Stage 2 of the project is currently underway, featuring the development of a 119-home, exclusive, gated community, named Trentham Waters Living.
The Kelly Racing name lives on in Supercars circles, with Rick's brother Todd running two Super2 Ford Mustangs for son Mason and Aaron Cameron, who recently finished second for the round at Mount Panorama.
Wentworth Shire Mayor, Daniel Linklater, added: “Wentworth council and the region are excited to see the Trentham Waters Resort project come to life after working closely with the Kelly Family throughout the planning stage over the last few years.
“The projected increase in tourism, staffing opportunities, and increased amenities for locals are all exciting prospects for our community."
Mildura Mayor Liam Wood said: “I’d like to congratulate Rick Kelly and his family for envisioning, planning and undertaking such a massive project in our region.
“This project will provide so many benefits to both communities, whether it’s jobs during construction and once operational, or the significant visitor drawcard and economic driver the Resort will represent once completed.”
