Rogers on top, van Gisbergen claims podium

In the battle of pro sim racing champion versus Bathurst 1000 winner it was iRacing expert Josh Rogers who came away with bragging rights, following tonight's fourth round of the Repco Supercars Pro Eseries.

Rogers won two out of the night's three races, one on Michigan's famous oval circuit and the second at Italy's Formula 1 circuit, Monza.

The night's wildcard, 2016 Supercars champion and 2020 Bathurst 1000 winner Shane van Gisbergen claimed a second place finish at Michigan before being overrun by his online combatants in the other two races of the night.

Van Gisbergen was the best of Supercars' drivers in the recent BP All Stars Eseries but it was a completely different field this evening, with the kiwi up against the best online Supercars racers in the world.

In the opening race of the night van Gisbergen fought his way to the front on the Michigan oval circuit and was on track for victory, until a smooth move by his Red Bull Holden Racing teammate Jarrad Filsell saw Filsell claim a narrow win.

Penrite Racing's Jobe Stewart, the youngest competitor in the field, claimed third for his first-ever podium result.

Van Gisbergen said after the race the competition in the Repco Pro Eseries is a step up from the recent BP All Stars Eseries against fellow Supercars' drivers.

"These guys are another level. I'm just hanging on to the back of them, but it's pretty fun," the Bathurst 1000 winner said to the Fox Sports commentary team, which included special guest and fellow Supercars driver Scott Pye from DeWalt Racing.

"It's just a full pack race, I got a bit lucky then, missed a couple of crashes... I was just trying to help out Jarrad there and he got the win."

Racing at Michigan was filled with high speed crashes, one of which took Rogers out of contention in the opening race of the night.

The #25 Mobil 1 Appliances Online Commodore driver made the most of the reverse grid start in the second race of the night, claiming victory after starting eighth.

Filsell finished second in front of Brady Meyers in the Pioneer DJ Racing Mustang.

The third race of the night was held at Italy's famous Monza circuit and reigning Pro Eseries champion Rogers led from start to finish to claim his sixth race victory of 2020.

Filsell claimed his third podium of the night finishing second while Rogers teammate Dayne Warren finished third.

Tonight's results mean Rogers, who now races online professionally and is based in Germany, has won 15 out of the 27 pro eseries races held across 2019 and 2020.

Rogers has now extended his championship lead with just two rounds to go.

Next week racing heads to F1's famous Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium and a yet to be determined location, which will be decided by fans.
