Completing two PIRTEK Enduro Cup appearances and two seasons as a full-time driver in the category, Stanaway announced his retirement at the end of 2019.

Supercars.com takes a look at Stanaway’s most memorable moments ahead of his return to racing.

1) Sandown victory

Stanaway combined with Cameron Waters to score their first Supercars career wins with a faultless performance in the 2017 Sandown 500.

The pole-sitting young guns delivered on their promise to upset Supercars’ powerhouse teamss, taking Tickford’s third win of the season.

Taking the effective lead after two strong stints from Stanaway, Waters eventually beat Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat in the #17 Shell V-Power Racing Team entry by 0.7s.

2) Kiwis clash in practice

Stanaway and countryman Shane van Gisbergen exchanged some argy-bargy in the first practice session of the Gold Coast 600 in 2019, seeing both Kiwis receiving minor bumps from one another as they negotiated the street circuit.

Speaking after the tussle, van Gisbergen said the pair are "good mates" off the track, but was left questioning the move.

3) Career-best qualifying in Tassie

Stanaway scored his best solo qualifying result for Race 8 of his second full-time season, netting seventh at the Tasmania SuperSprint in 2019.

4) Drifting around Townsville

A frustrated Stanaway displayed his drifting skills at the Townsville 400 in 2018, when a mix-up in pit lane meant he returned to the track with one heavily used tyre.

The Kiwi was seen sliding his Tickford Falcon around the circuit following the late-race Safety Car, before taking the flag 23rd.

5) Charging in rain-soaked Bathurst thriller

Supercars Hall of Famer and voice of the sport Neil Crompton had high praise for Stanaway during his masterful Bathurst stint in the wet in 2017.

In only his sixth main game start, Stanaway put in a supreme drive on the mountain to put himself and Waters in contention for a breakthrough Bathurst win.

6) Maiden top 10 at Winton

Stanaway took his best solo finish of his Supercars career with a ninth-place finish in Race 14 at the Winton SuperSprint in 2018.

The result was the best of the Tickford cars, finishing ahead of teammate Chaz Mostert, who completed the top 10.

7) Maiden pole with Waters

Waters fended off McLaughlin in the second ARMOR ALL Race for the Grid to record pole position for Sandown 500 in 2017.

Starting the second qualifying heat third thanks to Stanaway's efforts in the earlier race, Waters shot to the lead at the first corner.

The pair would go on to convert it to a lights-to-flag victory on Sunday, a first for both in their Supercars careers.

8) Main game debut

Stanaway made his Supercars debut for Tickford Racing in 2016, co-driving with Chris Pither in the enduros.

He impressed on debut in Sandown, fighting his way from a pit-stop down up to third with slick tyres on a damp track.

His team was caught out by a Safety Car and would eventually drop to 17th and one lap down.

9) Coulthard clash on full-time debut

In his first full-time race in Adelaide in 2018, rookie Stanaway suffered an unfortunate moment with Fabian Coulthard, seeing the #12 Shell V-Power Ford clip Stanaway's rear right tyre, bunching up the field as a result.

The compacted mid-field led to an incident at Turn 5, with Stanaway turning fellow rookie James Golding around in front of himself and Todd Hazelwood.

10) Wild Winton accident

Stanaway had an unfortunate moment in practice for the Winton SuperSprint in 2019, seeing him collide with the barrier.

The Garry Rogers Motorsport recruit explained he was suffering from neck pain linked to a back injury he sustained in 2012, and had received medical treatment.

He later withdrew from the remainder of the event and missed the next round in Darwin.
