Supercars is set to learn more about Dunlop's development tyre compound when it is tested on Friday in Sydney ahead of its possible debut in 2025.

Two Fords — driven by Cam Waters and Richie Stanaway — and two Chevrolets — driven by Brodie Kostecki and Andre Heimgartner — will cut laps on the development tyre after the sole practice session at Sydney Motorsport Park.

After all 25 drivers roll out for 90 minutes of practice on Friday night, the four aforementioned cars will return for a 30-minute session held solely on the development compound.

There, Waters, Stanaway, Kostecki and Heimgartner will complete the second key test on the new compound, following an all-day test at Queensland Raceway.

Last month, Matt Stone Racing driver Nick Percat and Dick Johnson Racing veteran Will Davison completed over 1000km on the new tyre at the Ipswich circuit.

“We're working through a test plan with Dunlop, and it's great to get this opportunity to put some laps on the tyre in Sydney,” Supercars General Manager of Motorsport Tim Edwards told Supercars.com.

"Dunlop have presented us with this development tyre for next year, and we're keen to explore it further. Obviously, Sydney Motorsport Park is one of the tougher tracks on tyres that we go to.

“Already, we have an understanding of the ultimate lap time difference between the development tyre and the current tyres. Now, it’s about understanding how durable this tyre is."

Edwards explained that the four drivers selected have crucial experience on a wide range of tyres, which will help the development process.

Notably, Waters and Kostecki recently competed in NASCAR, while Stanaway has an extensive sportscar and open wheel background.

“They've all driven different sorts of cars; particularly Brodie and Cam, they've had recent NASCAR tyre experience," Edwards added.

“These drivers will be able to provide relevant tyre comparisons. Richie has got a huge amount of experience overseas with other tyres, and Andre's highly experienced in a range of cars.”

Supercars action at the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight will get underway with Practice at 5:00pm AEST on Friday.
