Super2 teen completes wildcard line-up

An all-Super2 combination of Matt Chahda and Jaylyn Robotham will tackle this October's Repco Bathurst 1000.

It was confirmed Wednesday that Robotham will join Chahda in the latter's family-run wildcard.

Chahda and Robotham will share a Walkinshaw Andretti United-owned Commodore.

Chahda, 28, was announced as the pilot of the car back in July.

At the time, only Chahda, team and car details were made public, leading to speculation over the identity of the co-driver.

That has now been confirmed as 19-year-old Robotham, who races an Image Racing Holden in Super2.

Both Robotham and Chahda are enjoying career-best seasons in the Dunlop Series, the former winning the season-opener in Sydney.

Chahda followed up the news of his Bathurst wildcard with a maiden overall podium in Townsville.

The Robothams, like the Chahdas, treat racing as a family affair.

David Robotham, a Lancefield local and baker, has managed his son’s journey through the ranks.

David Robotham thanked Matt Chahda Motorsport Team Principal Amin Chahda for the opportunity.

"We are delighted that Jaylyn will fulfil his dream of racing at the Great Race, the Bathurst 1000 later this year, as part of the MCM wildcard team," David Robotham said.

"Jay has worked so hard for this and we are working closely with the team at MCM to make his debut a success."

Amin Chahda believes Robotham is well-positioned to deliver at Mount Panorama.

"We are excited to have a young dynamic driver like Jaylyn partnering with Matt, as they both make their debut on the Mountain," Amin Chahda said.

"We have followed Jay’s progress for some time and believe he will deliver on the day."

Matt Chahda described Robotham as a "formidable competitor", adding: "His attention to detail, his driving style and overall attitude to life makes him a great choice as my teammate."

There will be 28 cars on this year's Bathurst grid, with just eight combinations yet to be confirmed. WAU has yet to assign Fabian Coulthard and Warren Luff to a car.

PremiAir Racing, Matt Stone Racing (Todd Hazelwood), Brad Jones Racing (Jack Smith) and Team 18 (Scott Pye) are all yet to confirm co-drivers.

The 2022 Dunlop Series will resume at Sandown next month.
