Dunlop Super2 funding program postponed

Dunlop Super2 teams have today been notified that the driver funding program announced for the 2020 series will be postponed.

“Due to the ever-changing COVID-19 situation and the effect it has had on the sport financially, Supercars management informed teams that the category is not able to commit to the previously announced funding program for the Dunlop Super 2 Series champion and rookie class champion in 2020,” a Supercars spokesperson said.

Last November, it was announced that the champion of the 2020 Dunlop Super2 Series would be offered a $400,000 scholarship prize to be used exclusively towards securing a championship drive in 2021, as a part of Supercars primary pathway plan for young drivers.

It was also announced that the rookie DS2 driver under the age of 25 who has accumulated the most points will be offered a $100,000 scholarship to further their career in the DS2 series.

“Supercars is still focused on implementing the program and is hopeful of securing the required funding prior to the 2021 Series,” said the spokesperson.

“As has been the case for 20 years, Supercars will continue to provide up and coming drivers using the Dunlop Super2 Series with a clear pathway to reach the top tier of motorsport in Australasia - the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

“In 2020, round prize money of $5,000 for the Dunlop Super2 round winner, $2,000 for second place and $1,000 for third place will continue to be awarded.”

The combined Dunlop Super2 and Super3 fields will contest two 18-lap races at the Truck Assist Sydney SuperSprint on July 18-19, including a twilight race on the Saturday night.
