  • WAU already at The Bend for Ryan Wood rookie test

Chaz Mostert will become the latest driver to test the development tyre, with the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver to test the tyre at The Bend Motorsport Park.

The Ford star’s development tyre testing will come alongside teammate Ryan Wood’s planned rookie day at the South Australian circuit on Tuesday. Mostert will also conduct engine mapping changes from AVL testing, also on behalf of Supercars.

A development tyre has been tested at Queensland Raceway and Sydney Motorsport Park in recent weeks, ahead of a possible 2025 debut.

Nick Percat (Matt Stone Racing) and Will Davison (Dick Johnson Racing) completed a combined 1000km on the tyre in June.

On the Friday of the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight, Supercars ran a 30-minute session under lights for four cars.

The Friday session was conducted by Cam Waters (Tickford Racing), Richie Stanaway (Grove Racing), Jack Le Brocq (Erebus Motorsport) and Andre Heimgartner (Brad Jones Racing).

Mostert will become the seventh different driver to complete new tyre testing on behalf of Supercars, and Tailem Bend the third different circuit.

The tyre-killing Tailem Bend circuit is the next natural fit for testing of the tyre, according to Supercars General Manager of Motorsport Tim Edwards.

“The Bend is great track to test the new tyre at, as it’s one of the toughest tracks on tyres,” Edwards told Supercars.com.

“We’re continuing to analyse the information we’ve already got on the new tyre, and this latest test is a good opportunity to evaluate it further.

“Drivers were able to push hard at QR and Sydney, which are also tough on tyres. As we’ve said, ultimately we want drivers to drive the tyre harder, and it's looking positive at the moment."

The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint on August 16-18. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

Live coverage can be found on Foxtel, with live streaming available on Kayo. Highlights will be shown on the Seven Network and 7plus. International viewers can follow all the action on Superview.
